The national board of directors for the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) met on February 6, 2013 with intentions of voting on whether to allow homosexuals to have supervisory roles over boys. The board declined to make a decision at that time and decided to allow 1,400 scout leaders around the country to make this important decision at the 2013 National Annual Meeting scheduled for May 22–24 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.
The Boys Scouts of America will consider a compromise on May 22, 2013 that would drop the organization’s ban on admitting youth who are open or avowed homosexuals. The national leadership tentatively plans to keep the ban on homosexual scoutmasters. However, given the intense pressure on the Boy Scouts to change their overall policy nothing should be taken for granted.
The Associated Baptist Press reports “Richard Land, head of the SBC Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, wrote Scout leaders May 15 to reiterate the denomination’s “strident opposition” to dropping the organization’s ban on admitting youth “who are open or avowed homosexuals.” Southern Baptist churches presently comprise a large number of the Scouting units chartered by the faith community. The Southern Baptist Convention holds that:
-
The proposed policy change is “a serious departure from the BSA’s moral foundation and traditional values.”
-
Including gays would be inconsistent with the Scout Oath “to keep myself … morally straight.”
-
By introducing homosexual identification into Scouting, the Boy Scouts would effectively require church-sponsored Scouting units to endorse that which they consider incompatible with Scripture.” Southern Baptists do not believe embracing same-sex orientation is biblically acceptable.
-
Allowing openly homosexual youth into Scouting would cause many Southern Baptist churches, as well as many churches from other denominations, to withdraw their sponsorship rather than compromise their convictions,” Land said. “Already, numerous churches have told us of their intent to do so.”
Changing the policy to allow open homosexual scouts erroneously validates the lifestyle before millions of boys. Changing the policy in effect deletes the principle and oath commitment to "keep myself ... morally straight." It is inappropriate and irrational to change the Boy Scouts century old values and standards that millions of boys follow just to accommodate the very few who are demanding the change.
The May 22nd vote is only hours away.
Florida Family Association has prepared an email for you to send to encourage twelve top Boy Scout officials to stand their ground and reject the compromise.

Florida Family Association sent out email alerts in January 2013 that urged concerned citizens to send emails to a dozen top Boy Scout officials urging them to hold fast to the scouts’ century old policy of protecting America’s boys and their values. Thousands of Florida Family Association supporters sent emails. It appears that these emails along with the efforts of many other pro-family organizations influenced the Boy Scouts to change their minds about outright amending their policy at the February 6, 2013 meeting.
The Boys Scouts are trying to avoid the heat by delegating the vote on this policy change to 1,400 unknown leaders. That reflects the intense pressure that homosexual activist campaigns and Boys Scout corporate sponsor extortion (Intel, AT&T, UPS, Ernst & Young) have placed on the Boy Scouts of America to change their policy.
If the vote tally of the 1,400 scout leaders is anywhere near close to the numbers of local scout councils supporting the proposal then this policy change may likely be placed right back on the shoulders of BSA national officials. The Wall Street Journal reports “Scouts for Equality (a gay rights advocacy group), said that 11 of the 300 local scouting councils in the U.S. publicly said they disagree with the national organization's policies on gay members.”
Allowing homosexuals to hold leadership roles over boys is just as illogical as allowing men to hold leadership roles over girl scouts. Changing the policy will be an open invitation that could lead to a higher rate of molestations.
Trustworthy is the first law of the Boy Scouts. Will America continue to view the Boy Scouts as trustworthy if they bend to political correctness and corporate sponsor extortion by changing a policy that helped to keep boys out of harm’s way?
