Florida Family Association’s monitoring efforts, daily contact with advertisers and email alerts appear to have influenced the Entertainment Channel to stop airing Playboy’s Girls Next Door from their network.
Playboy's Girls Next Door was nothing more than an infomercial to promote Playboy's pornographic magazines, cable programs, internet site and phone service. It was the only program series on an unrestricted, advertiser supported television network that profiled a porn company. Any child with a remote could tune into this hedonistic show.
Florida Family Association reported in the June 2010 newsletter that the Entertainment Channel had not aired the pornographic show Playboy’s “Girls Next Door” since February 23, 2010. This was after Florida Family Association’s daily communications with advertisers and the hundreds of thousands of emails sent by supporters in response to fourteen email alerts influenced four hundred (400) companies to stop advertising on Playboy’s Girls Next Door. The show failed to draw major advertisers during the last three years of production. Approximately sixty seven percent (67%) of the advertising space was used for network promotions and company trades during the past two years.
However, the Entertainment Channel started airing the show again in late August 2010. But prospects for the show looked bad based upon the fact that the network for the first time in four years did not produce new episodes for the new fall season. They instead aired repeats of the program. Florida Family Association responded immediately by contacting the CEOs and Marketing VP’s of the companies that advertised on the repeat episodes which aired mostly in September and October.
In all, four hundred (400) companies stopped advertising during Playboy’s Girls Next Door after receiving emails of concern from the Florida Family Association office and Florida Family Association supporters. Those companies are list below.
The Entertainment Channel finally stopped airing Playboy’s Girls Next Door at the end of October 2010.
The fact that the network did not produce new episodes for the fall season and airing of the show was discontinued again after losing a dozen more advertisers is a fair indication that this program was a losing proposition for the Entertainment Channel.
This is a Major Victory for Florida Family Association’s efforts to improve and protect our moral environment. The only television show that featured a porn company on an unrestricted, advertiser supported network which could have been watched by children was proven to be a failure. Many major companies rejected the show after Florida Family Association informed them of the program’s content. More companies dropped their support for the show after receiving thousands of emails from FFA supporters.
