CAIR St. Louis July 23, 2014 media event at The Seven Gables Inn has been postponed/canceled.

Florida Family Association sent out several email alerts which reported that the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) ST. Louis was holding a media event on July 23, 2014 at The Seven Gables Inn in St. Louis, Missouri.  The CAIR St. Louis web page states the following regarding the event. 

  • The Ramadan Iftar Press Dinner is an annual event hosted by the St. Louis Chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-St. Louis). The purpose of this event is get members of the press and local Muslim leaders in the same room once a year. During the program CAIR-St. Louis representatives share unique advice on how to cover Islam, the American Muslim community, build contacts within local Muslim leaders, discuss trends on how the media portrays Islam, pitch insightful story ideas, and share Ramadan through breaking of the fast (iftar) and dinner.
  • (This program is only open to members of the press and representatives of the Muslim community.)

Thousands of people responded to the Floridafamily.org email alerts by sending emails to hotel officials.  The emails provided facts concerning CAIR's history to hotel officials and urged them to consider such concerns regarding the booking of similar events in the future.

The CAIR St. Louis web page reports that the event has been postponed.

Join us for this annual event that gets members of the press and Representatives of the St. Louis Muslim community in one room to experience Ramadan, gain insight on covering Islam, and build meaningful relationships.

What is it?

The Ramadan Iftar Press Dinner is an annual event hosted by the St. Louis Chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-St. Louis). The purpose of this event is get members of the press and local Muslim leaders in the same room once a year. During the program CAIR-St. Louis representatives share unique advice on how to cover Islam, the American Muslim community, build contacts within local Muslim leaders, discuss trends on how the media portrays Islam, pitch insightful story ideas, and share Ramadan through breaking of the fast (iftar) and dinner.

A Florida Family Association supporter who called the hotel said "Seven Gables Inn said they canceled Muslim brotherhood meeting."

Americans who are concerned about CAIR’s history and agenda have the First Amendment Right to complain to hoteliers who host such events and choose hoteliers who do not give place to the same.  Florida Family Association’s online campaigns have influenced the policies of other hoteliers regarding such events.  Florida Family Association did not expect the hotel chain to cancel the event but to consider concerns regarding the booking of similar events in the future.
