Al Jazeera America will shut down in April 2016. Cites “economic challenges in the U.S. media marketplace.”

249 out of 263 companies (94%) have stopped advertising on the network after receiving communications from Florida Family Association.

News outlets across the country are reporting that Al Jazeera America will shut down in April 2016.  The New York Times reports "In a memo to the staff, Al Jazeera America’s chief executive, Al Anstey, said the “decision by Al Jazeera America’s board is driven by the fact that our business model is simply not sustainable in light of the economic challenges in the U.S. media marketplace."

The Christian Science Monitor reports:  "Some observers have questioned whether the demise of the US-based offshoot of the Qatari royal family's Al Jazeera Media Network could be tied to the declining oil prices, which have taken a toll on Qatar's economy.  But a spokeswoman from Al Jazeera told Reuters that the decision stemmed from challenges relating to the US media market, which has struggled to find ways to recoup lost advertising in the new digital economy."

"The Al Jazeera America Board made this decision based on the fact that the Al Jazeera America business model is simply not sustainable in light of the economic challenges in the U.S. media marketplace," the spokeswoman wrote in an email to Reuters."

Florida Family Association started contacting companies that advertised on Current TV as soon as Al Jazeera acquired the network in January 2013.  Florida Family Association tapes ten hours of programing on Al Jazeera America every day.  The Florida Family Association office communicates with each advertiser no less than once per week.  Top advertisers are strategically featured one at a time because there are so few of them.  Tens of thousands of people across America sent millions of emails through Floridafamily.org to officials with companies that advertised on Al Jazeera America.  The emails encouraged Corporate America to stop supporting Al Jazeera America with United States consumer dollars.

Florida Family Association has influenced 249 out of 263 companies to stop advertising on Al Jazeera America.   Two hundred seven (207) companies stopped advertising on Al Jazeera America after the Florida Family Association office communicated with the companies’ CEOs and Marketing VPs.  Forty two (42) companies stopped advertising on Al Jazeera America after being profiled in Florida Family Association email campaigns.

There are currently seventeen (17) companies advertising on Al Jazeera America on a regular basis.  Florida Family Association gives new advertisers two weeks to respond to communications regarding their ads before including them in the currently advertising category.  Most of these small companies buy unwanted advertising time in bulk from multiple channels.  These ad purchases are commonly referred to as remnant advertising which is unsold advertising from multiple channels.  This means the vast majority of Al Jazeera America’s advertising is being purchased for dimes on the dollar.  Many of these advertisers are so small and have had so many ads run for so long that it appears that Al Jazeera America is giving away the ad space.  Very small companies that have had ads run for close to a year include:  Back Brace, Coast One Financial, Derm, Dutch Glow, HydroMousse, Knee Brace, TVM Advocates.

Nearly half of Al Jazeera America's advertising time is devoted to Al Jazeera America self promotions and Ad Council or non-profit free advertising.   There have been no recent counter network promotions.  Florida Family Association contacted ABC, Fox, NBC and VIACOM regarding cross promotion on Al Jazeera America many months ago.  No media companies have cross promoted their network on Al Jazeera America in many months.

The decline in oil prices certainly gutted Qatar's ability to underwrite Al Jazeera America.  However, if the network had advertising revenues to cover operating expenses Qatar would not have planned to close the channel.  If oil prices should rebound and/or the network attrack advertisers a decision could be made to keep the network.  Therefore, now is not the time to back off on “the economic challenges” that Al Jazeera cites for closing the network open.  Florida Family Association will continue to monitor Al Jazeera America until the network officially closes in April 2016.  Advertiser officials will continue to be contacted.  Online campaigns will continue to be launched.

History

Al Jazeera, whose leaders spew hate for Israel,  who showed disdain for Paris murder victims, is a news company that is owned by the non-democratic, monarch styled emirate of Qatar who allows wealthy citizens to financially support ISIS, supports the Muslim Brotherhood, backs the head of Hamas, espouses Islamic Sharia law and does not afford citizens freedom of the press.

Why is it important to vigorously challenge American companies not to advertise with Al Jazeera America?

*     No other company poses a larger threat for the most American companies to start doing business with Islamist companies.

*    The news media does influence the political positions of the public. The Islamist political positions held by Al Jazeera officials and/or owner, especially those positions summarized below, pose a threat to changing American public policy that has protected life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

*    American companies that acquire advertising with Al Jazeera America are giving United States consumer dollars to an Islamist Sharia minded regime.

*     Eighty one percent of respondents to Al Jazeera survey say they support ISIS.
