Please urge the House Freedom Caucus to prioritize the tax relief needs of millions of Americans and the political downside of not doing so as they pursue the goal of reducing expenditures and debt.

Republican lawmakers' plan to pass legislation to codify Donald Trump’s agenda by the end of May 2025.  Trump’s agenda includes tax cuts, border and immigration reform, energy deregulation and increased military spending.

Republicans have vowed to extend Trump's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, or TCJA, which is set to expire at the end of this year.  If the TCIA is not extended the federal income tax burden on American families will increase dramatically.

President Trump’s 2024 Presidential campaign also heavily promoted federal income tax exemptions for social security benefits, tips and overtime.  These three exemptions have come under fire by members of the GOP Freedom Caucus.  The caucus members are concerned that these exemptions will increase the national debt.

There is great virtue in wanting to decrease the national debt.  The Freedom Caucus’ role in keeping the pressure on congress to balance the budget and reduce the national debt is crucial to the future of America.

On the other hand, reducing income taxes on millions of retirees, disabled and low income tip earners would go a long way to help millions of Americans meet their financial needs especially housing.

Additionally, Donald Trump, the top most visible GOP leader, promised income tax cuts for social security benefits, tips and overtime.  Millions of Americans, who want and in most cases need one or more of these tax breaks, will be closely watching Republican bills regarding these tax cuts.

“Read my lips. No new taxes” George H.W. Bush boasted during his 1988 Campaign.  He subsequently raised the taxes that Reagan cut.   Bush lost his bid for re-election to Clinton, prompting many to suggest his failure to keep the "no new taxes" pledge as the primary reason for his defeat.

Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) run by Elon Musk will hopefully knock out hundreds of billions of dollars of wasteful federal spending.   Elon Musk said he plans to cut $500 billion in annual spending by the US Treasury.  DOGE first projected cuts up to $2 trillion.

There is a lot riding on the legislation that is being planned to codify Donald Trump’s agenda.  The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act renewal, border and immigration reform, energy deregulation and increased military spending are crucial.

President Trump’s campaign pledge for federal income tax exemptions for social security benefits, tips and overtime would help millions of Americans to meet their family budgetary needs especially housing.  GOP sponsored legislation excluding tax exemptions for social security benefits, tips and overtime could have dire consequences at the ballot box for the GOP in November 2026.

The US House Freedom Caucus appears to hold key votes on Trump’s agenda.
