US House objects to DHS funding plan reported on April 2, 2026.

Florida Family Association sent out an alert on April 2, 2026 titled GOP leaders move to shutdown proof DHS funding using reconciliation bill.  The House declined today to take the first step in that plan.

The House just held a pro-forma session the morning of April 6, 2026 and did not accept the Senate’s bill to fund DHS without ICE and Border Patrol.  Some House Republicans demand that the reconciliation bill portion of the plan be passed first. The House holds another pro-forma session on Thursday.

Based upon comments by Representative Brandon Gill (R-Texas) on April 4, 2026 during Kayleigh McEnany’s Fox News show passage of the Senate DHS funding bill "as is" is unlikely.

Representative Gill noted  that  about 40 to 50 House Republicans are willing to protest all Senate bills until the US Senate passes the SAVE America Act.  Representative Gill called on the US Senate to adopt the Standing Filibuster which would allow the senate to approve the SAVE America Act with 51 votes.

Representative Gill said the current filibuster rule is an “ineffective excuse not to do anything.” He said “They don’t listen to the people because they have a 60 vote threshold that they can hide behind. The Senate is not effectively debating any important legislation because of the 60 vote cloture rule.”

It looks like House Speaker Mike Johnson got ahead of House Republicans to support the plan reported by Fox News on April 2, 2026.

The issues that challenge passage of the SAVE America Act and DHS funding change on a weekly and sometimes daily basis.

The US Senate reconvenes on April 13, 2026.

Florida Family Association will continue to urge GOP US Senators to deploy a Standing filibuster to pass the SAVE America Act and reconciliation bill to fully fund DHS.

Florida Family Association is closely watching the DHS budget and SAVE America Act legislation and will send out future email alerts as required.
