The Fort Worth Weekly published a report on July 9, 2026 titled: Fort Worth Police Issue Refresher Training After Pride Festival Speech Dispute. The article reports in part:
The Fort Worth Police Department has announced refresher training for officers following a viral video of an encounter at Trinity Pride Fest involving a citation for alleged offensive speech.
Fort Worth police spokesman Buddy Calzada said the department reviewed the encounter and acknowledged the officer made certain statements that were not accurate. The department maintained that the ticket was originally issued to fellow preacher David Grisham because he used a bullhorn in violation of the city's noise ordinance, not because of the content of his speech.
Fox News published a report on July 10, 2026 titled: Texas police admit officer made inaccurate First Amendment remarks after preacher cited at Pride event. The article reports in part:
In a statement to Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for the Fort Worth Police Department said, "The City of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Police Department recognize that incidents involving First Amendment activity require thoughtful consideration and understanding of the law."
"FWPD remains committed to protecting the constitutional rights of all individuals, regardless of the content or viewpoint of their speech," the department said in its statement. "A video that has circulated online captures only a portion of the interactions between the officer and the individuals involved. FWPD acknowledges that an officer involved in the incident made certain statements that were not accurate."
