The Catholic Church needs to devote more resources on caring for the needs of American citizens rather than immigrating more burdens for taxpayers and safety risks for families.

Fox News published an article titled: “Federal judge blasts Rubio’s 75-country visa freeze as ‘Orwellian,’ strikes down policy. Judge Jeannette Vargas directed the government to revisit cases in which applicants were denied under the 75-country freeze. ” The article reports in part:   

A federal judge struck down the Trump administration’s freeze on immigrant visas from 75 countries Friday, ruling Secretary of State Marco Rubio lacked the legal authority to order denials for applicants otherwise found eligible to enter the United States.

U.S. District Judge Jeannette Vargas, a Biden appointee in Manhattan, vacated the State Department policy and any visa refusals based solely on it, directing the government to revisit those cases.

At the time the policy was issued, the State Department said it had instructed consular officers to halt immigrant visa applications from the 75 countries in accordance with a broader order in November that tightened rules around potential immigrants who might become “public charges.” Relying on Council of Economic Advisers data, the State Department said that more than 30 percent of households with immigrants from these countries received some form of public assistance.

A separate notice sent to all U.S. embassies and consulates said that non-immigrant visa applicants also should be “fully vetted and screened” for the possibility that they might seek public benefits in the United States.

The cable, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press, noted several times that the applicant must prove they won’t apply for public benefits while in the U.S., and that consular officers who suspect the applicant might apply should require them to fill out a form proving their financial bona fides.

"The Court holds that the Policy is contrary to law and was issued in excess of Secretary Rubio’s statutory authority," Vargas wrote in her 61-page opinion.  

Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) is the lead plaintiff in the case titled Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. et al v. Rubio et al.  Many regional and diocesan branches of Catholic Charities (such as those in Raleigh, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C.) operate immigration legal programs that function as affiliates or partners within CLINIC’s nationwide network.  CLINIC provides training, legal resources, advocacy, and occasional grants or fellowships to help local Catholic Charities offices increase their capacity to offer charitable immigration legal aid.

The judge’s order now prohibits evaluating critical conditions of visa applicants from 75 countries, many of which are hostile to the United States and many of which plan to live off the support of American taxpayers, thanks to the Catholic Church.
