Florida Family Association sent out an email alert on April 12, 2015 titled CAIR leader who said “practicing Muslims are above the law” demands that Texas teacher be severely punished for distributing information about Islam.   The alert asked readers to send emails to encourage school district board members to show grace to the teacher and tolerance for open education.  The April 12, 2015 email alert is posted at the end of this alert.

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) issued a press release on April 7, 2015 titled CAIR-Houston Seeks Disciplinary Action for Teacher Who Promoted Anti-Muslim Hate in Class.  Foster High School teacher Dale Woolverton resigned less than twenty four hours later on April 8, 2015.   News reports that Mr. Woolverton had resigned were not published until late April 14, 2015, two days after Florida Family Association sent out the email alert.

Foster High School is governed by the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District (CISD.)  Florida Family Association’s email alert also informed the public that the school district was planning a regular school board meeting on April 14, 2015.

KHOU reported the following in part regarding the April 14, 2015 school board meeting:

Parents, students show support for former teacher in Muslim controversy

An 8-page handout titled "Islam/Radical Islam: Did You Know?" has ignited a firestorm in the Lamar Consolidated School District.

According to a district spokesman, the government teacher at Foster High resigned on April 8th just as the district was beginning its investigation

"What they don't like is the facts getting out about Islam," said Stan Horton, who supports the teacher.

"What he did was not wrong," said Taylor Cyrus, who supports the teacher.

The outrage in the district is not against the teacher who gave the document to his students.

"We need more teachers like that," said Kayleen Nelson, a parent of a student at Foster High. "We don't need to run them off."

The parents and students packed into Lamar CISD's board meeting Tuesday night. They're supporting the man at the center of the controversy.

"He's taught me," said Cyrus. "He's taught many students."

One by one, they took the podium in his defense.

Breitbart.com reported that many students, parents and friends attended the board meeting and asked for Mr. Woolverton to be reinstated.

ABC 13 News reported  On Tuesday night, Lamar CISD issued the following statement: "We're aware of one teacher who made an independent decision to provide information to students that didn't follow subject matter, or state and local curriculum plans.  As soon as this issue was brought to the District's attention, the administration addressed the situation with the teacher.  Ensuring our students have access to factual information, given in the proper context, is a priority in our District.  It's important for the community to understand that we're legally prohibited from commenting on the specifics of a student or staff issue.  The District is still investigating the matter.  The teacher submitted a resignation on April 8, once the District investigation began."

It is highly unlikely that the Lamar CISD has forced every teacher to resign who in the past has handed out information that was not specifically authorized by the district.  It is also unlikely that the school district attempted to validate the information in all other past cases let alone investigate them.  Many education and non-profit organization leaders and millions of educated Americans believe that much of the information that Dale Woolverton distributed is true.

In this case, it clearly appears that the Lamar CISD was intimidated by the Council on American Islamic Relations' tactics to extract pain from anyone who dares to speak the truth about Islam.  Lamar CISD officials rushed to judgement and forced Dale Woolverton to resign within twenty four hours of CAIR’s complaint.

It is truly disheartening to witness the Lamar CISD board demonstrate zero tolerance for Dale Woolverton just to satisfy CAIR’s Islamic code of conduct.  Their actions demonstrate the incivility of those who called for Mr. Woolverton’s firing and sends a dangerous message of censorship to any open education.

Mustafa Carroll, CAIR Houston executive director, announced during Texas Muslim Capitol Day in 2013 that “If we are practicing Muslims, we are above the law of the land.”  See reports at Texas Tribune and Breitbart.com.

Now Mustafa Carroll is alleging that materials distributed by a Texas teacher should be grounds for dismissal because they allegedly violate school code.  CAIR Houston issued a press release regarding this issue which is posted at the bottom of this article.

Click2Houston reported April 8 2015“CAIR calls for resignation of Lamar consolidated ISD teacher,” by Amanda Gamez.

RICHMOND, Texas – A lesson taught within the halls of Foster High School has students talking outside the classroom.

In question is a lesson students say covered radical Islam, taught by a teacher they say is known to do things differently.

“No other teacher teaches like he does,” said Byron Randle, a student at Foster High School.

This time, though, his approach has ruffled feathers. Some even called it anti-Muslim.

The Council on American Islamic Relations, CAIR, believes the lesson was offensive.

CAIR said the teacher handed out a pamphlet that blasts the religion. One point labeled Muhammad a fake prophet. Another said Islam is not a religion.

“He’s been open about accepting everything,” said Jason Paul, a student of the teacher.

Supporters of the teacher in question say the point of the lesson was to show students a different viewpoint — one which they could take or leave.

“He wanted us to make our own opinion. Everything he gives us he wants us to make our own opinion. He’s like the one of the most neutral guys I know,” Byron Randle said.

"CAIR is calling for the teachers firing. what was untrue in the handout? Nothing — those numbers are based on a recent Pew poll. But the Hamas-tied terror org CAIR is desperate to silence and destroy anyone and everyone who dares speak the truth about the jihad threat." Proclaims Pamela Geller of Stop Islamization of America.

Many education and non-profit organization leaders and millions of educated Americans believe that much of the information the teacher distributed is true.

Florida Family Association requested information from Julie Thompson, Lamar CSID in the email posted below.  Florida Family Association requested a copy of school district policies that govern educational materials distributed by school teachers and wanted to know many other school teachers have been disciplined under such policies this school year.  The Lamar CSID did not respond.

CAIR HOUSTON PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CAIR-Houston Seeks Disciplinary Action for Teacher Who Promoted Anti-Muslim Hate in Class

(HOUSTON, TEXAS, 4/7/15) - The Houston office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Houston) today called on officials at Foster High School in Richmond, Texas, to take appropriate disciplinary action against a teacher who allegedly passed out virulently anti-Muslim materials in class.

CAIR-Houston said the material seems to have been taken from an anti-Muslim site on the Internet and contained claims such as: "Muhammad posed as a prophet. . .Both Jesus and Paul warned that after they were gone many false prophets would come. Muhammad is simply one of them. . ."

Other misinformation included:

* "Islam is more of an ideology than a religion. It is also an ideology of war. . ."

* [Islam forces] its ideology on cultures and ultimately on the world through propaganda, subversion, and even physical force when it is deemed necessary, one area of the world at a time."

* "You will either give into their demands recognizing Islam's 'noble' rule, you will become a Muslim yourself, or you will die."

* [Muslims believe] All governments – except Islam – should be overthrown."

* ". . .everyone will be brought under the yoke of Islam, willingly or unwillingly."

* ". . .even though generally Islamic followers will say that the 'believe' in Jesus and respect Him and the Bible, in fact, neither is really true."

"We thank school officials for taking this issue seriously and await appropriate disciplinary action for the teacher," said CAIR-Houston Executive Director Mustafaa Carroll. "Only a strong response to this attempt at student indoctrination will send a message that our schools must never be incubators of hate."

He noted that CAIR-Houston last year welcomed the resignation of Angela Box, a third-grade teacher who made anti-Muslim remarks on a public access television show.
