Al Jazeera America is off the air. Florida Family Association's efforts influenced 260 out of 275 (95%) companies to stop advertising.

Al Jazeera America is off the air.

Great News!  USA Today reports “Al-Jazeera America, which failed in its attempt to establish another TV news network, signs off after a three-hour live farewell Tuesday.”

Florida Family Association's efforts that influenced 260 out of 275 (95%) companies not to advertise on Al Jazeera America certainly played an important role in their decision to close the channel.  Two hundred nine (209) companies stopped advertising after the Florida Family Association office communicated with the companies’ CEOs and Marketing VPs.  Fifty one (51) companies stopped advertising after being profiled in Florida Family Association email campaigns.  Florida Family Association started contacting companies that advertised on Current TV as soon as Al Jazeera took control of the channel in January 2013.  More than sixty companies advertised during the first week that Florida Family Association started contacting advertisers.  Al Jazeera America averaged less than fifteen advertisers per week during the last year of operation.  A complete breakdown of the companies is posted below.

If Al Jazeera America had advertising revenues to cover operating expenses Qatar would not have closed the channel.  FFA's efforts that influenced 260 out of 275  companies  not  to  advertise on Al Jazeera America played a major role in their decision to close the economically unviable channel.  Many business analysts believe that Qatar, the Islamist country that owns Al Jazeera, made the decision to close Al Jazeera America because of declining oil revenues.  Oil rich Qatar used the profits from oil sales to underwrite Al Jazeera America.  The price per barrel of oil had dropped over seventy percent in the last two years.  The decline in oil prices certainly gutted Qatar's ability to underwrite Al Jazeera America which had no advertising revenues.

Why was it important to vigorously challenge American companies not to advertise with Al Jazeera America?

*     No other company posed a larger threat for the most American companies to start doing business with Islamist companies.
*    The news media does influence the political positions of the public. The Islamist political positions held by Al Jazeera officials and/or owner, especially those positions summarized below,  posed a threat to changing American public policy that has protected life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
*    American companies that acquired advertising with Al Jazeera America were giving United States consumer dollars to an Islamist Sharia minded regime.
*     Eighty one percent of respondents to Al Jazeera survey said they support ISIS.

The New York Times reports "In a memo to the staff, Al Jazeera America’s chief executive, Al Anstey, said the “decision by Al Jazeera America’s board is driven by the fact that our business model is simply not sustainable in light of the economic challenges in the U.S. media marketplace."  Florida Family Association's efforts that influenced 260 out of 275 companies not to advertise on Al Jazeera America certainly played an important role in their decision to close the channel.

Al Jazeera America was owned by Al Jazeera, the Arabic news television channel headquartered in the Middle East (Doha, Qatar.)  Al Jazeera purchased the Current TV channel from Al Gore, Joel Hyatt, Ronald Burkle, Comcast and DirecTV in December 2012.  Current TV officially changed their name to Al Jazeera America on September 1, 2013.

Al Jazeera, whose leaders espouse hate for Israel, who showed disdain for Paris murder victims, is a news company that is owned by the non-democratic, monarch styled emirate of Qatar who allows wealthy citizens to financially support ISIS, supports the Muslim Brotherhood, backs the head of Hamas, espouses Islamic Sharia law and does not afford citizens freedom of the press.  Qatar is a Muslim-majority country with Islam as the state religion.   Qatar is ruled by an emir who has been very adept at using Islamists, especially the Muslim Brotherhood, to promote his country’s interests and bolster his own domestic legitimacy.

81% of Aljazeera.net's 38,000 viewers support ISIS.  In a recent survey conducted by AlJazeera.net, the website for the Al Jazeera Arabic television channel, respondents overwhelmingly support the Islamic State terrorist group, with 81% voting “YES” on whether they approved of ISIS’s conquests in the region.  The poll, which asked in Arabic, “Do you support the organizing victories of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS)?” has generated over 38,000 responses thus far, with only 19% of respondents voting “NO” to supporting ISIS..

The Wall Street Journal reported on January 6, 2013  Inconvenient Truths About Al Jazeera.  “More due diligence might have included a review of the close journalistic coverage over the years of Al Jazeera's Arabic and English broadcasts, which discloses the unsurprising fact that the network reflects the interests of the government that runs it—making it akin to Vladimir Putin's Russia Today and Beijing's Xinhua. The emir of Qatar, Hamid bin Khalifa Al Thani, appointed his cousin as chairman of Al Jazeera. The emir was last in the news for donating $400 million to Hamas, a terrorist organization.”

Bill O’Reilly said on his January 30, 2015 Fox News program “Al Jazeera is a lobbying group for the Islamic Jihad.  Of all the media in the world this is the most favorable one to terrorism.”

National Review reported on January 27, 2015Shortly after news broke of a deadly January 27 attack by Islamic terrorists on a hotel in Libya’s capital, Al Jazeera English executive Carlos van Meek shot out an email to his employees.  “All: We manage our words carefully around here,” the network’s head of output wrote to staff at the Doha-based news channel’s New York and Washington, D.C. newsrooms. “So I’d like to bring to your attention some key words that have a tendency of tripping us up.”  In an email obtained by National Review Online, van Meek warned the network’s journalists against the use of terms including “terrorist,” “militant,” “Islamist” and “jihad.”  “One person’s terrorist is another person’s freedom fighter, the Al Jazeera executive wrote.  The word “extremist” was labeled off-limits. “Avoid characterizing people,” van Meek said. “Often their actions do the work for the viewer.”

The Washington Times reported on December 10, 2014 Qatar allows money to flow to Islamic State, other terrorists.  “Qatar-based terror finance challenges have metastasized into a pressing, world-class crisis,” states the report by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, warning the flow of money from private individuals in the Persian Gulf nation is likely only to continue without a “serious change in U.S. policy.

Fox News reported on January 10, 2015 Leaked Al Jazeera emails reveal disdain for Paris murder victims.  “Defending freedom of expression in the face of oppression is one thing; insisting on the right to be obnoxious and offensive just because you can is infantile,” wrote Khadr, quoting Time magazine, as he urged Al Jazeera staffers to consider that “I am Charlie” is an “alienating slogan – with us or against us type of statement – one can be anti-CH’s racism and ALSO against murdering people.”

Adweek.com reported on April 28, 2015:  Two Al Jazeera America executives voluntarily resigned after Matthew Luke filed a  lawsuit against Al Jazeera America and Osman Mahmud, vice president at the network.   Luke claimed Mahmud created a hostile work environment and was prone to making discriminatory, anti-Semitic and anti-American remarks such as ‘whoever supports Israel should die a fiery death in hell.'”

Theblaze.com reported on August 7, 2014 Wait Until You See What a Media Watchdog Caught Al Jazeera Reporters Saying About Hamas and Israel.  A new study examining the Arabic social media postings of Al Jazeera correspondents demonstrates how some of the on-air personalities at the network praised Hamas’ actions in its terrorist campaign against Israel over the past month and even seemed to call for the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Israel.

The Washington Times reported on July 9, 2013 ‘We aired lies’: Al-Jazeera staff quit over biased Egypt coverage.  AL Jazeera journalists that are imprisoned in Egypt for allegedly supporting the Muslim Brotherhood were denied bail on March 31, 2014.  The Qatari-owned media company Al-Jazeera saw 22 members of its staff in Egypt resign on Monday over what they allege was “biased coverage” of the events that unfolded in Cairo during the week of July 2, 2013.

Aljazeera.com reported on April 1, 2013 that Qatar supported the re-election of Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal.   Khaled Mashaal said that the “Zionists are enemies of Allah and the prophets, and called for preparing to liberate Jerusalem and restore the homeland once more through jihad, the rifle, and self-sacrifice” during a speech in Cairo on October 3, 2012.   Khaled Meshaal lives in Qatar

Alarabiya.net reported on July 9, 2013:  We aired lies: Al Jazeera staff quit over misleading Egypt coverage.  As many as 22 Al Jazeera employees have quit since the overthrow of Mohammad Mursi, amid concern over the channel’s alleged bias towards the Muslim Brotherhood and its coverage of Egypt.  Criticism over the channel’s editorial line, the way it covered events in Egypt, and allegations that journalists were instructed to favor the Brotherhood are said to be the main reasons behind the mass resignations.  As many as 22 Al Jazeera staff resigned on Monday, Gulf News reported, but other media said only seven had left the broadcaster.  Al Jazeera correspondent Haggag Salama resigned accusing the station of “airing lies and misleading viewers”, Gulf News reported. The newspaper also said that four Egyptian members of editorial staff at the network’s headquarters in Doha had resigned in protest.

Two hundred nine (209) companies stopped advertising on Al Jazeera America after the Florida Family Association office communicated with the companies’ CEOs and Marketing VPs.  Fifty one (51) companies stopped advertising on Al Jazeera America after being profiled in Florida Family Association email campaigns.  The linked companies listed below are the companies that were profiled with online campaigns.  The links connect to the appropriate Floridafamily.org articles.  The following two hundred sixty (260) companies stopped advertising on Al Jazeera America after receiving emails of concern from the Florida Family Association office or thousands of Florida Family Association supporters.

There were only fifteen (15) companies advertising on Al Jazeera America on a regular basis when the channel closed.

Air Time Media - Kneebracetv.com
CareOne Credit Counseling
Direct Insurance (has no web presence)
Family Financial Education Foundation
Graze Nature Delivered
James C. Ferrell, PC
Marketing & Media Services LLC - Dwighttheknight.com
National Debt Relief
OIC Tax Services
Page Publishing
Pulaski Law Firm (TVM Advocates)
SAS Group – Dutch Glow
The Sentinel Group
US Healthcare Supply - Vertaloc
Wall & Associates

Most of these small companies buy unwanted advertising time in bulk from multiple channels.  These ad purchases are commonly referred to as remnant advertising which is unsold advertising from multiple channels.  This means the vast majority of Al Jazeera America’s advertising was being purchased for dimes on the dollar.

Many of these advertisers are so small and have had so many ads run for so long that it appeared that Al Jazeera America was giving away the ad space.  Very small companies that have had ads run for close to a year include:  Back Brace, Coast One Financial, Dutch Glow, Graze Delivered, Knee Brace.

Nearly half of Al Jazeera America's advertising time was devoted to Al Jazeera America self promotions and Ad Council or non-profit free advertising.  Al Jazeera America advertised their other shows on each program and aired numerous self promotions. Many  non-profit organizations have stopped advertising on Al Jazeera America even though they did not pay for the time.

Ad Council and non-profit promotions included:

ALS Foundation
American Red Cross
Care.org
Child Fund
Habitat for Humanity
Make A Wish Foundation
Mercy Ships
Sepsis.org
Shire, Inc. – Keepmomming.com.
Trust for Public Land
United Nations Refugee Agency
United Way (LiveUnited.org)

These non-profit organizations did not pay for advertising.
